The Role

We are looking for casual Wildfire Engagement Officers to be a visible presence in the Peak District National Park in order to reduce and report fire risk and engage with visitors to increase wildfire awareness.

The shifts available will be 4-8pm Fridays and Saturdays throughout July & August.
There will be shifts available at Derwent Valley, the Goyt Valley and Stanton Moor.

This is a casual role so you can choose which shifts you would like to be considered for. We want people ideally to commit to a minimum of 4 shifts over the season.

Purpose of Role –
• To engage with the public to explain the rules and reasons regarding no fires or barbeques, with the aim of reducing the mess and damage caused, reducing the risk of wildfires and rolling back the perception that this is an acceptable activity in the Park.
• To seek out sites where BBQ’s and camp fires happen, engage with any perpetrators, tidy the sites and revisit on future patrols.
• To assist as necessary the local Area Ranger with signage or other matters relating to fire risk.

The role will be undertaken in the Derwent Valley, the Goyt Valley and Stanton Moors as the role is in partnership with Severn Trent, United Utilities and Derbyshire County Council. This will also compliment the BMC funded wildfire ranger role currently in place.

- You will be working in pairs
- The patrols will follow set routes determined by area rangers

Training for the role will be provided.
