The Role
We are looking for a Trainee Ranger, part-time 18.5 hours per week, to help us be the eyes and ears of the Peak District National Park, while having the opportunity to develop your skills and experience to progress into higher grade positions. This is a career graded post, providing an opportunity to move up through our grading system to become an Assistant Ranger and then an Engagement Ranger (subject to meeting the requirements). In the role you will be operating in the north west area of the National Park, from our Longdendale base, responsible for carrying out practical projects in Access & Rights of Way and conservation, working with volunteers, and liaising with local stakeholders and visitors.
A driving license is essential and some weekend working is required (approx. 1 in 4).
About You
As this is a trainee position so we are looking for someone who would benefit from the development on offer, with aspirations to develop their career as a Ranger. You will need to have:
Essentials
• NVQ Level 2 Countryside Management or equivalent experience
• Some experience of working or volunteering in countryside management or conservation.
• Some experience of supporting engagement programmes, such as events, guided walks, school visits.
• Good oral, written and presentation skills with a developing ability to communicate confidently with a wide range of audiences.
• Developing knowledge or interest in countryside and environmental issues.
• Experience of volunteering and/or working with volunteers
• Experience of using Office suite, especially Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.
• Some awareness of health and safety and safeguarding procedures and policies.
• Full driving licence.
Desirables
• Current first aid certificate.
• Degree in a countryside management/ environmental field
