The Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic Conservation Officer to join the Peak District National Park’s Cultural Heritage Team. This is a full-time permanent post. This post provides excellent learning and development opportunities for a recent graduate or early career professional. The post is a career grade post, depending on the skills and experience of the post holder and the needs of the organisation there may be opportunity to move to Grade G.
In this role you will work with Senior Conservation Officers to help us to protect and enhance the special buildings, structures, places and landscapes of the Peak District National Park. You will provide specialist conservation advice, support and guidance both internally and externally, and help the team deliver an effective and integrated conservation advice for our settlements and countryside.
There are 109 conservation areas and almost 3000 listed buildings in the National Park set within some of the most beautiful landscapes of the UK.
Key aspects of the role include:
• giving general and pre-application advice on historic buildings and structures
• responding to planning & listed building application consultations
• contributing to our work towards reducing Heritage at Risk
• contributing towards conservation area assessments and other area assessments (e.g. open spaces within settlements)
• assisting with identifying unauthorised works and advising on enforcement action
About You
You will have a degree or qualification in historic building conservation, heritage conservation, architectural history or other relevant discipline. You will have specialist knowledge of traditional building architecture, techniques, materials and conservation methods and the adaption of historic buildings. You will have a good knowledge of conservation and planning policy, legislation and best practice guidance. Working experience in conservation or planning advice is desirable. You may have other related skills such as an understanding of building design or urban design.
