The Role
We are looking for a Wildfire Engagement Officer to help us work in partnership with Eastern Moors Partnership, to be a presence on the eastern edges of the Peak District National Park, in order to reduce and report fire risk, and engage visitors and local stakeholders to increase wildfire awareness.
E.g. In the role you will be responsible for carrying out wildfire patrols, monitoring and reporting issues, some practical work e.g. installing fire signage, working with volunteers and liaison with local stakeholders. You will also create mobile content for social media including videos, photos and pieces to camera to raise awareness of your role and looking after the National Park.
The post holder will be required to work 50% of weekends and in the evenings up to 10pm when there is a high fire risk.
This is a fixed term post until the 31st October 2026.
About You
You will need to be able to communicate effectively with the public and a range of stakeholders including landowners, local community and visitors , you will have experience of engaging with members of the public sometimes in difficult circumstances, you will have conflict awareness training/experience, you will have fell and moorland navigation experience and training, you will have the ability to identify moorland vegetation types and understanding of designations and access legislation (SSSI, CROW etc), you will have the ability and willingness to work alone, you will have experience and knowledge of health and safety and safeguarding policies and procedures and you will have the ability and willingness to create social media content using a mobile phone.
